Evelyn Hayes Sanders

Mrs. Evelyn Hayes Sanders, 82, of Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026 peacefully at her home.

Born on May 4, 1944 in Anderson SC, she was the daughter of the late Hugh M. Hayes Sr. and Mae Bell Dickson Hayes. Mrs. Sanders worked in textiles and retired as a receptionist from the Hart County Health Department. She loved to cook and read and was a member of the Milltown Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband: Roy Larry Sanders; two sons: Thomas “Tommy” Sanders of Hartwell and Kevin Sanders (Kathy) of Newnan GA; a brother: Melvin Hayes (Debbie) of Iva SC; a sister-in-law: Ann Hayes of Greenville SC; a brother-in-law: Kendall Sanders of Hartwell; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Hugh M. Hayes Jr.; two sisters: Mabel Ann Greenway and Sue Ellen Brown and two brothers-in-law: Carroll Greenway and Douglas Brown.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Sanders will be Sunday, June 28, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Ken Brewer officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is assisting the family with all of the arrangements.
