Mr. Floyd King, age 72, of 1048 Smith McGee Hwy., Hartwell, GA, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born March 18, 1937 in Elbert County, GA, he was the son of the late William Rufus King and Littie Bond King.He began working for the Corps of Engineers in 1959.He worked in the Construction, Real Estate, Mechanical and Electrical Departments, working his way to Power Plant Manager of Richard B. Russell and Hartwell Dam.He received the Supervisor of the Year Award.He was a member of the Georgia Army National Guard, graduated from GMI; was Battalion Commander of 214 Field Artillery in Elberton. He retired with 39 years of service from the National Guard retiring as a Brigadier General. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by:Wife, Annette Bradford King of the home; Daughters, Lisa Cartledge of Hartwell, GA, Angie King of Toccoa, GA, and Kelly McClellan and her husband Darren of Vidalia, GA; Brother, Tony King of Elberton, GA; Granddaughters, Kriston Eitel and her husband Rick and Jessica Cartledge; Grandsons, Taylor McClellan, Carson McClellan, Sam King and Connor King; Great granddaughter, Alissa Eitel and great grandson, Landon Brown.He is preceded in death by his Parents and a Sister, Phyllis Smith.
It was his desire to be cremated.A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Full Military Honors.Rev. Jack McVeigh, Mr. Virgil Hobbs and Mr. Joel Seymour will officiate.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 – 9:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel and one hour before the service.
