Mr. Floyd Thomas Norris, age 83 of 100 Hart State Park Road, Hartwell, Ga., died Friday, October 17, 2008 at University Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Athens, Ga.

Born March 19, 1925 in Hartwell, Ga., he was the son of the late Carlton L. Norris and Dollie Thrasher Norris. He was retired from Newton Mills Plant as a loom fixer and later retired from Strickland Funeral Home where he served faithfully as an assistant funeral director. He was a member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church, He was former chairman of the deacon board at Sardis Baptist Church for several years and he was a member of Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge #690. Mr. Norris was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran.

He is survived by: wife, Ruth Evans Norris of the home, son, Jimmy O'Dell and his wife Henrietta of Hartwell, Ga., sister, Libby Jean Teasley of Hartwell, Ga. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Margaret Nell Bailey Norris, son, Boyce O'Dell, brothers, Morris, Tom, Frank and Boyd Norris and sister, Ruby Teasley.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell. Rev. Ken Brewer and Rev. Terry Meeks will officiate. Burial will be at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening. The family will be at the home. Memorials may be made to the Abundant Life Baptist Church; 12 Hart Service Road, Hartwell, Ga. 30643 A meal will follow the service at the church for the family.
