Mrs. Sara Frances (Lewis) Carter Maye, age 80, of Canon, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the home of her daughter.
Born February 20, 1935, in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Moses Webster and Nettie (Carter) Lewis. She worked as a seamstress for Pinline Manufacturing in Toccoa and was a member of Bowersville Church of God. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands: Milford Carter and Marvin Maye; son: Bobby Carter, Sr.; and daughter: Maggie Carter.
She is survived by sons: Roy Carter and Kenneth Carter; daughters: Shirley Ann Dove, Hilda Thomason, Betty Brooks and Karen Carter; stepchildren: Faye Young, William Maye, Joel Maye, Hope Helman, Melissa Turpin, Mary Ann Maye, Melissa Lynn and Stewart Maye; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Thomason and Rev. Leonard Young officiating. Burial will follow in Bowers Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the families will be at the home of Hilda Thomason, 401 Brickyard Road, Lavonia, GA 30553.
