IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances Sayer
Skelton
May 17, 1935 – March 31, 2024
Easter Sunday afternoon, March 31, 2024, Frances Sayer Skelton entered into the presence of her beloved Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Through His blood, and by His grace, she was saved from her sins and was given the gift of eternal life.
Frances was born on May 17, 1935, to Samuel Oscar Sayer and Leona Bagwell Sayer of Elbert County. She was a graduate of Bowman High School and Truett-McConnell University. She held various classroom positions in the Troup County School System.
A gifted teacher, she taught Sunday School and Girls in Action most of her adult life. She was also passionate about missions and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of Waypoint Baptist Church in Cumming, GA, and resided at the Benton House of Sugar Hill.
Frances will affectionately be remembered for her quick wit, dry sense of humor, and her love of and service to others. She faithfully provided countless meals to the sick and elderly until she suffered a debilitating stroke. She was a prayer warrior and it was not uncommon for staff members of the assisted living facility to share their concerns with her. Even from her deathbed, she was playing hostess, making sure her visitors' needs were met.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Marion Skelton; her parents; brothers, James Walton Sayer, and Rev. Edward Sayer; and a sister, Martha Sayer. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Rob) Bryant of Cumming, GA, and Bill (Amy) Skelton of Germantown, MD; grandchildren, Bobby Bryant of Atlanta GA, Hannah (Dane) Rosier of Easley, SC, and Liam Skelton of Germantown, MD; her brother, Earl (Carol) Sayer of Royston, GA; sister-in-law, Pat Sayer of Anderson, SC and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children. The family would like to thank the devoted caregivers of the Benton House of Sugar Hill who cared for her and that she considered friends.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 3:00 with Rev. Ronny Taylor and Rob Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 until the service time. Interment will be at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Bowman, GA.
Flowers are optional and donations may be made in Mrs. Skelton's memory to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 329, Palmetto, GA 30268, or Truett-McConnell University, 100 Alumni Drive, Cleveland, GA 30528.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
