Charles Frederick Cochran, age 86, of Lavonia, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. Born on May 27, 1939, in Draper, NC, he was the son of the late Juel and Ruth Hawks Cochran.
Fred was a proud graduate of Lavonia High School Class of 1957. He attended Georgia Southern University and then enlisted in the US Army. He retired as an animal pharmaceutical representative, where he was known for his dedication and expertise. Beyond his professional life, Fred had a deep passion for classic cars and was a master at barbecuing.
A devoted member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church, Fred lived his life with faith and kindness. He was a beloved husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Winfred “Wimp” Cochran, and his lifelong best friend, W. M. Gilbert.
Fred is survived by his wife, Louise Gailey Cochran; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Darlene Cochran; his grandchildren, Justin and Bailey Cochran, and Christy and Michael Grizzle; and his great-grandchildren, Mason Grizzle, Clayton Grizzle, Callie Grizzle, Anniston Cochran, and Lennon Cochran. He is also survived by his dear sister, Mervene Allen and nephew, Todd Allen.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Lavonia First Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris Chitwood and Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Following the service, a private burial will take place at Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Fred’s memory to the Lavonia First Baptist Church, Beyond Fund, P.O. Box 47, Lavonia, GA 30553.
