Mr. Fred Cullen Mackey, 91, of Hartwell, husband of the late Hazel Powell Mackey, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in Elizabethtown, KY.
Born on November 5, 1918 in Hart Co., GA, he was the son of the late Sydney and Lessie Osborne Mackey. He was a building contractor, a WWII United States Army Veteran, and a member of the Hartwell First Baptist Church and Doc Adams Sunday School Class for over 55 years.
Survivors include three daughters: Margaret Mackey of Hartwell, Carol Mackey Jenkins and husband Bob of Elizabethtown, KY, and Fredda Mackey Durando and husband Jim of Lakeside, CA; one brother: Curtis Mackey and wife Bobbie of Hartwell; numerous nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.Mr. Mackey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers: Lloyd Mackey and Joel Mackey; and three sisters: Evelyn Gray, Cecil Cleveland, and Clyde Robertson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Williams and Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made out to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345-3315.
