Virginia Gale (Vickery) Burgess, age 79, of Martin, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 at her home following an extended illness.

Born February 28, 1943, in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late James Tye and Sara Nell (Floyd) Vickery. She graduated from Hart County High School, Class of 1961. She retired from Northeast Georgia Bank, where she served as bookkeeper for many years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia.

She is survived by her husband: Truman Burgess of the home; sons & daughters-in-law: Chuck & Renee Burgess of Hartwell and Lyndon & Robin Burgess of Lavonia; grandchildren: Brady Burgess and Jared Burgess of Hartwell, and Logan Thompson of Lavonia; sister: Malinda Welborn of Lavonia; brother & sister-in-law: Billy & Janice Vickery of Lavonia; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia with Dr. Joe Renfro and Rev. John Forbes officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until the service.
