Gary Brien McGovern
July 21, 1943 – December 14, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Brien McGovern, age 81, of Hartwell, Georgia, who peacefully left us on December 14, 2024 surrounded by family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Gary's life was one filled with adventure and a deep commitment to his family and community.

Gary was born on July 21, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  A graduate of The University of Oklahoma, he was a lifelong Sooner fan.  He served with distinction in the United States Navy as a member of the A6 Intruders in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, he pursued a career in the airline industry and then retired with the U.S. Postal Service. He and his wife, Pamela, shared a lifelong love of travel, exploring new places, and creating memories together.

Family was at the heart of Gary's life. He adored spending time with his daughters, Casey Wilson (Phillip) and Kristy Zgol (Greg), and treasured the moments spent with his grandsons, Grayson Zgol (20), Barrett Wilson (19), Ryan Zgol (17), and Preston Wilson (15). He is preceded in death by his parents, Miles McGovern and Claire McGovern of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Gary's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donation would be made to one of his favorite charities, The Intruder Association Scholarship Fund via The Tailhook Educational Foundation, 9696 Business Park Ave, San Diego, CA 92131, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.

May Gary's memory continue to inspire those who knew him, as he now joins the great adventure beyond.
