Mrs. Eugenia "Gena" (Battson) Whitworth, age 87, of Royston, formerly of Lavonia, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center.
Born January 19, 1926, in Lavonia, she was the daughter of the late John Mark and Mary Edice (League) Battson. She was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church where she worked as secretary, in earlier years she worked at Milliken.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: former Lavonia Mayor, Walker Neal Whitworth and a brother: John Mark Battson, Jr.
Survivors include her Children: Cheryl Slater, Michael Whitworth & (Brenda) and Patricia Swails; grandchildren: Steven Whitworth and Chris Whitworth & (Adria); great grandchildren: Hollis and Hope Whitworth; and sister: Sarah Louise Morgan
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Richard Bielski officiating. Burial will follow in Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other times the families will be at their respective homes.
