Mr. Edward "Gene" Beggs, age 76, of Tiger Tail Road, Lavonia, died Monday, May 5 at his home.
Born June 1, 1931, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Cleo Beggs & Helen Ethridge Beggs. He graduated from Lavonia High School and was a Heating and Air Conditioning Service Technician. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Church of God International. He was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War, serving aboard the USS Iowa.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law: Genie & Rusty Witherington of McDonough and Patty & Bob Shapiro of Dewitt, NY; son: Sandy Beggs of Conyers; friend and caregiver: Daisy Beggs; twin-sister and brother-in-law: June & Jerry Briney of Austin, TX; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Wallace & Evelyn Beggs of Clarksville and Dan & Jean Beggs of Conyers; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Burial will follow in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional, or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
