William Eugene "Gene" Carroll, Jr., age 90, of Lavonia, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 in Hartwell.

He was born on February 21, 1933 to the late William Eugene Carroll, Sr. and Edna Hyde Carroll. He was a graduate of Decatur Boy's High School. He attended Emory University and graduated from Southern Technical Institute in Atlanta. He was an investor and self-employed in real estate development, and the building of residential and commercial properties.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Garner Carroll; son, John Carroll and his wife, Peggy, and their children: Kyle Oglesby (Preston), Kinsey Bartlett (Hunter), and Carson Carroll. He is also survived by his granddaughter Michelle Hatchett (Patrick) and two great-grandchildren: J. P. Oglesby and Myers Oglesby, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Carroll; daughter, Patricia Carroll Hatchett; and grandson, Brian Hatchett.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in Gene's memory, to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
