Mr. Gene Austin Faircloth, age 76, of Athens, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospice House.
Born March 6, 1934 in Coffee County, he was the son of the late Hoke Austin & Mary Lou Davis Faircloth. He was a Corporal in the US Army having served during the Korean War. Mr. Faircloth was club manager of the Cherokee Town Club and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step daughter: Rachel Stockwell.
He is survived by his wife: Sara Foutch Faircloth of the home; daughter & son-in-law: LaGina & David Gibbs of Douglas; step sons & daughters-in-law: Neal & Sally Old of Lavonia and Steve & Nelda Old of Summerville, SC; step son: Chester Old and Steven Bennett of Atlanta; step son-in-law: Greg Stockwell of Athens; grandchildren: Dave Austin Gibbs, Casey Lindsey Gibbs, Sara Winn Stockwell, Jason & Staci Old, Justin & Karrie Old; great grandchildren: Kasin, Landin, & Mikayla.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Umbehant officiating. Burial will follow in Lavonia City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Mary's Hospice House P.O. Box 6588 Athens, GA 30604.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday afternoon from 2:00 until the funeral hour.
