Mr. Eugene Francis "Gene" Larkin Jr., 89, of Hartwell, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2025 at The Oaks of Athens.

Born on February 24, 1936 in Staten Island NY, he was the son of the late Eugene Francis Larkin Sr. and Rose McGinn Larkin.  Mr. Larkin received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Penn State University and a Masters of Business Administration from San Diego State University.  He entered the United States Navy in May of 1955 and served in the USN until June of 1970, leaving as a 1st Lieutenant.  Mr. Larkin went to work in 1973 for the United States Civil Service, working for the United States Air Force and retired after 30 years of service as a Safety Manager.  After retirement, he moved to Hartwell GA and became a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Hartwell VFW Post 8076, and the Bell Family YMCA-Silver Sneakers.

Survivors include a brother: John Peter Larkin (Eileen) of Belvedere NJ; two sisters: Sister Evyleen Larkin of Dobbs Ferry NY and Rosemary Honrine of Johns Creek GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Larkin was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Patrick George Larkin.

A Memorial Mass for Mr. Gene Larkin will be Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Tran John Pham officiating.  Military Honors will follow the Mass and a reception will follow in the Founders Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hart County Humane Society, PO Box 1062, Hartwell GA  30643.
