Glenda Genevieve (Genny) Burton Cole, 80 of Braselton, GA (formerly Lavonia, Ga) passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. Genny was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee (Bo) Cole, her parents William Glen and Annie Lee McDowell Burton, and sister Kathy Burton Harris. She is survived by her sons Rhett Allen Cole and wife Joy of Concord, GA and Barry Lee Cole and wife Amanda of Braselton, GA; grandchildren Tyler Justin Cole and wife Rebekah of Dacula, GA; Mandi Leigh Cole DeLaughter and husband Michael of Roswell, GA; Britton Alec Cole and wife McKenzie of Yuma, Az; Ryan Terry Hurkmans and wife Morgan of Concord, GA; Haley Nicole Hurkmans of Zebulon, GA; great-grandchildren, Campbell and Hudson Cole, Ronin and Falon Cole, Lawson and Easton Hurkmans, Brently Irvin and Jianni Enriquez; brothers and sisters, James Burton and wife Wylene of Madison, GA; Martha Burton Davis and husband Richard of Lavonia, GA; Willene Burton Bradford of Loganville, GA; Wilbur Burton and wife Susan of Winder, GA; brother-in-law Mike Harris of St. Simons Island, GA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Genny was born August 6, 1941, in Brookhaven Georgia, graduating from Chamblee High School. She married Bo Cole January 30, 1961. After marriage and the birth of their children, the family moved to Lilburn, GA and for many years she and Bo participated in their sons' school and sports activities. She had a very accomplished career in pharmaceutical sales with John B Daniel and later Bergan Brunswick. Upon retirement from Bergan Brunswick, she and Bo retired to Lake Hartwell in Lavonia, GA. One not to sit idle, she went back to work with the City of Lavonia, accepting the position of Downtown Development Authority and Better Hometown Program Director. She was likewise involved in many, volunteer, civic, and cultural projects to include volunteering at Lavonia Elementary School in the reading program and actively involved with the startup of the mentoring program. She also volunteered at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital, Lavonia, GA. She played an integral part in the Land of Spirit Productions, Power of Hope, and Lavonia downtown celebratory activities, the Womens Club (President multiple years), the Red Hat Society and anything needing a helping hand. In 2004, she received the Good Citizen of the year Award from the Chamber of Commerce. Genny was a devoted wife, a loving Mother and Grandmother, and a friend to all she met.
Genny loved the beach, spending holiday time and travel with family and friends. Genny was a member of Lavonia First Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. Pastor Kenneth Kennerly, and Barry Cole will officiate. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
