George Ray Alewine, 74, of the Eagle Grove community Hart County, went to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 5, 2013.Born in Bowersville, Georgia, to the late Obie and Louise Hill Alewine, he graduated Hart County High School and attended Massey Business College.He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the aircraft carrier Saratoga.Ray lived most of his adult years in Mableton and Lilburn, working 31 years for Sears, and an additional 12 years with Baxter/Allegiance.He and his beloved wife, Corrie, retired to Eagle Grove in 2002 and restored her maternal grandparents' home.Ray very much enjoyed life on the farm, time with his family and neighbors, and his church.He was a member and former Deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he was a faithful, active servant until his battle with cancer began five years ago.
Ray is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 52 years, Corrie Lunsford Alewine; son, Todd Alewine of Eagle Grove; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kelly Alewine and their children, Logan, Miranda, and Nolan of Hoschton, Georgia; beloved sister-in-law, Elaine Lunsford Weeks of Athens; brothers Robert Alewine of Lilburn and Joe Alewine; and many special cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate his home going will be Sunday, September 8, at 2:00 pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with Rev. Terry Meeks officiating.Visitation will be Saturday, September 7 from 6 to 8 pm at Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell.Burial will be in Bowersville City Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1543 Anderson Hwy., Hartwell, GA 30643.
