Mr. George Washington Allen, age 83, of 1513 Beacon Light Rd., Hartwell, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Hart Care Center.

Born February 19, 1925 in Franklin County GA, he was the son of the late Lon Allen and Bessie Welborn Allen. He was retired from the Hartwell Company and attended the Providence United Methodist Church. He was a WW II veteran, serving in the US Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

He is survived by his son: Roger Canady and his wife Diane of Hartwell, GA; daughters: Carolyn Vickery and her husband Bobby of Hartwell, Ga., and Glenda Smith of Bowersville, Ga., grandchildren, Darren Dye, Kevin Vickery and Justin Canady, step-grandchildren, Wesley Martin and Henry Harris, four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Heather & Hunter Dye and Michael Osborne. He was preceded in death by wife: Sarah Byrum Allen; grandson: Dennis Dye; brothers: Hubert Allen, Rufus Allen and Dorsey Allen; sister: Ruth Finley and by his son-in-laws, Gerald Dye and Tommy Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Hartwell Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Rev. Doug Brown and Rev. Joe Black will officiate. Burial will be at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening. The family will be at the home of Bobby and Carolyn Vickery; 1531 Beacon Light Road, Hartwell, Ga.
