Obituary

Mr. George W. Hubbard, 88, of Benson St., Hartwell, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Hartwell Health Care Center.

Born on October 15, 1922 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late Zenus Oscar Hubbard and Mamie Chastain Hubbard.He was retired from Harry Marett Supermarket, where he was the Butcher.Mr. Hubbard was former Justice of the Peace and served as a city councilman on the Hartwell City Council for 15 Years.He was a member of the Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge # 690, the Hartwell First Baptist Church and was a WW II US Army veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy H. Chandler and her husband Phil of Marietta; a son, George W. Hubbard Jr. and his wife Peggy of Lewisburg TN; a brother, William Hubbard of Hartwell; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jordan Hubbard; two brothers, O.M. Hubbard and Layman Hubbard and two sisters, Betty Crump and Inez Hubbard.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. Steve Williams and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning.Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Hartwell First Baptist Church, 81 E. Howell St, Hartwell GA 30643.
