Obituary

George Cleveland Macomson, 74, of Lavonia, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at St. Mary's Sacred Heart after an extended illness.Born on March 24, 1947, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Janie Mae Sosby Barrett of Carnesville, and the late George Thomas Macomson, also of Carnesville.Prior to retirement, he worked locally at Franklin Industries for many years, and he and his wife, Sandra, were active members of Lavonia Church of God.He enjoyed gardening, hanging out at Morgan's Hardware, and spending time with his dog, Buddy, and his family and friends.His most favorite food in the world was cornbread and milk, and he loved to watch wrestling and just about any western.
In addition to his beloved wife of 23 years, Sandra Nix Macomson, he is survived by daughters Kimberly Macomson Young and son-in-law Danny Young of Carnesville, Tammy Callaway of Carnesville, Krystal Macomson Fitzpatrick and son-in-law Garland Fitzpatrick of Lavonia, Sara Callaway Baskins of Carnesville, and son-in-law David Vickery of Canon; sons Brian Callaway and daughter-in-law Dana Callaway of Lavonia, and Jason Macomson of Lavonia; grandchild of the home, Bailey Elrod; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia "Patsy" Simpson of Lake Greenwood, South Carolina; and many extended family and friends.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Macomson Vickery, of Canon, and his son-in-law, Justin Baskins, of Carnesville.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 28, 2021, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Strickland Funeral Home in Lavonia.At other times the family will be at the home of Austin Fitzpatrick.Funeral services will be held at Lavonia Church of God on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 2:00 pm, with the Reverend Adam Tripp and the Reverend Courtney Umbehant presiding.Serving as Pall-bearers are Grandsons Daniel Young, Brandon Young, Jonathan Young, Austin Fitzpatrick, Landon Fitzpatrick, Chandler Callaway, Brayden Baskins, and Evan Conway.Serving as Honorary Pall-bearers are Great-grandsons Braden Young, and Malachi Young.Graveside services will follow with interment in the Burgess Cemetery of Lavonia, presided over by the Reverend Leon Carson.Flowers are welcomed and much appreciated.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
