Mr. George Edwin Reed, age 84, of Lavonia, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born May 7, 1929, in Hart County, he was the son of the late Edwin Lee Reed and Alma Jane (Smith) Reed. He managed the family farm and retired from Griggs Wood Products, where he worked for more than 40 years. Mr. Reed was a member and former trustee of Providence United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Connie (Crowe) Reed; daughter and son-in-law: Annette and David Carson; grandchildren: Kerri Carson Griffin and Karen Carson Mitchell; and great-grandchildren: Ansley and Audrey Mitchell and Jack and Reed Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Christine Reed West.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013 at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Brown and Rev. Joshua Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church.
