Mr. Gerald R. Herring, Sr., 77 of 442 Stillwood Drive, Hartwell, died Thursday, October 14 2010 at his home.

Born on January 12, 1933 in Columbus GA, he was the son of the late Floyd L. Herring Sr. and Vera Mae Spivey Herring Hall. He was a retired union iron worker, Local #387, Atlanta. He was a male volunteer for the Ladies Auxiliary of Hart County Hospital and of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Rita M. Herring of Hartwell; three sons, James "Ricky" Herring of Douglasville GA and David "Keith" Herring both of Douglasville GA and "Gerald" Ray Herring, Jr. of Dallas GA;One daughter, Cindy Herring Addison of Valparaiso Fl; Two stepsons, Michael I Gibson, and Richard J. Gibson both of Columbia SC;two brothers, Floyd L. Herring Jr. and Gary Wayne Herring both of Columbus GA; two sisters, Faye H. Weaver of Maryville IL and Mary Agnes "Pete" H. Brown of Columbus GA; eleven grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bobby Gene Herring, Freddie Herring and Jasper C. "Jack" Herring and a sister, Ruby H. Cofield.

Memorial services will be Sunday, October 17 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Jim Winn officiating.The family will receive friends after the memorial service.The family requests no flowers; memorial may be made to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway, Suite1, Marietta, GA 30067
