Mrs. Gerold Chastain Banister Ballew, 86, of 119 Spring Valley Road, Inman, SC, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at her home.

Born on February 24, 1926 in Hartwell, GA, she was the daughter of the late Willis Chastain and Dessie Fleming Chastain.She worked as a weave room clerk at Newton Mills for 23 years and in retail sales with K-mart of Greenville for 20 years. She was a former member of Tremont Avenue Church of God in Greenville, SC and a member of 1st North Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie B. Hammett and her husband W. Bernard of Inman, SC; one step daughter, Shirley B. Allen of Greenville, SC; one step-son, David M. Ballew and his wife Joretta of Greenville, SC; one sister, Ver-non C. Kay of Hartwell, GA; nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Ballew was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Theron Banister; second husband, John Ballew; two sisters: Marion Vickery and Margaret Nell Norris; and one great-grandchild, Mariah Roland.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Bob Bradberry officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.
