Mr. Glenn Vernon Wilson, Sr., age 73, of Lavonia, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born August 6, 1936, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Jessie J. & Eva (Whiten) Wilson. He was vice president of Piedmont Product Company. He was a member of the Lavonia Masonic Lodge #241, as Specialized Mason – Iron Worker. Mr. Wilson was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon, choir member, building committee member, and Sunday School superintendent.
He is survived by his companion and caregiver: Polly Brady of Lavonia; mother of his children: Elizabeth Virginia Wilson; sons: Vern Wilson of Largo, FL and Art Wilson; sister: Alma Roberts of Lavonia; brothers: Butch Wilson of Hartwell, Jesse Wilson, Jr. of Royston, Ted R. Wilson of Carnesville, Ray D. Wilson of Elberton, & W. Cecil Wilson of Westminster, SC; six granddaughters and four great-grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Anthony Lee Wilson.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Hendrix, Rev. Brit Ginn, and Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at Mr. Wilson's home. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church.
