Grace Hamby Massey, 92, of Lavonia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Saint Mary's Hospice Center in Athens, GA.
The daughter of the late John E. and Addie F. Williams, she was born April 13, 1918 in Franklin County. She was employed by Georgia Sportswear for a number of years. Mrs. Massey retired from Weldon Funeral Home and Hamby Funeral Home as a greeter. Mrs. Massey was a faithful member of Canon Baptist Church and faithfully attended Fairview Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Donald & Janie Hamby, Lavonia, GA, Larry & Cheryl Hamby, Salem, SC, and Susan & Johnny Maxey, Athens, GA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Linda Scott, along with several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy B. Hamby of Lavonia and Kermit Massey of Canon, brothers: A.B. (Bud) Williams and Ervin Williams, and sisters: Jesse Lee Chastain, Ruth Shiflet, and Eunice Crawford. Also grandsons, Timothy Hamby and Steven D. Hamby preceded Mrs. Massey in death.
Funeral services will be held at Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Paul Creason, Rev. Mike Smith, and Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
