Mr. Doyle "Grooms" Johnson Sr., 95, of Hartwell, passed away peacefully Friday, October 3, 2025 at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens.

Born on November 13, 1929 in Alma GA, he was the son of the late James R. Johnson and Daisy Lee Johnson.  Grooms was an Honor Graduate of Anderson College, a former avid tennis player and loved gospel music.

Grooms started out his 53 year working career at Marcus Long Engineering in Alma GA, then worked for Coastal Electric Membership Corporation in Midway GA, then Hart Electric Membership Corporation, where he retired as the Chief Executive Officer.

Grooms was a former member of the board of directors for the Northeast Georgia Bank and member and Past-President of the Hartwell Rotary Club, where he had perfect attendance for many years and was a Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow.  He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, where he was a former Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Music Leader on Wednesday nights.

Grooms is survived by his wife of 70 years: Theda Mae Hiott Johnson, a son: Doyle Grooms "Doy" Johnson (Ann) of Hartwell; a daughter: Donna Lisa Johnson of Hull GA; two grandsons: Elliott Johnson of Athens GA and Logan Johnson (Esther) of Marietta GA and a great-granddaughter: Marlow June Johnson.  Grooms was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A private cryptside service will be held by the family at the Northview Columbarium Garden in Hartwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of ones' choice.
