Obituary

George Augustus "Gus" King, age 82, of Lavonia, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at his home.

He was born July 2, 1941 in Hart County, the son of the late Hugh Dorsey King, Sr. and Carlyne Walters King. He was a lifelong farmer and worked as a rural mail carrier for the Lavonia Post Office. He was a veteran of the US Army Reserves and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church and the Dean Bland Sunday School Class. He was a member of the American Legion and an avid hunter. Mr. King was a master at surveying and was a trophy winner at the Savannah Valley Antique Tractor Pull. However, above all other accomplishments, he will be remembered as a beloved father & grandfather.

He is survived by his wife: Trill Farrow King; sons: Ted King & Tim King; grandchildren: Rebecca Kettle, Rusty King, Reagan King, Kirstin Williams, Alex King, MattiGrace Farrow, MaisyBeth Farrow, MaeRose Farrow, Rocky Farrow, and Austin Farrow; and several great- grandchildren., brothers: Tommy King, and Doug King (Sandra); sisters: Jane Snelling (Tom), Priscilla Randall (Russ), and Nancy McDaniel (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Jimmie Ann Dowis King; brothers: Hugh King, Jr., Jim King, Morris King, Bob King, and Johnny King; grandchild: Courtney King Wideman; and great grandchildren: Bryson Kurt King & Arden Willow King.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Chris Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The unique casket blanket was created from cotton and corn grown on Gus' farm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Brad Burton, Austin Farrow, Rocky Farrow, Darryl Freeman, Lewis Martin, and Chuck Whitfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.
