Mr. Gus Powell, age 81, of Royston, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center.
Born September 25, 1931, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Sam & Viola (Aldrich) Powell. He retired from Coats & Clark as a machine operator. Mr. Powell was a member of Faith Valley Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: David Powell; brothers: James Powell and Sam Powell, Jr.; and sister: Frances Bratcher.
Survivors include his wife: Betty (Turner) Powell; daughters: Brenda Fulbright, Susan Tyson, and Patricia Little; brothers: Billy Powell and Tommy Holly; sister: Marcelle Cooper; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Carter and Rev. Mike Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours, the family will be at the home of Billy and Shirley Powell, Myrtle Street, Lavonia.
