Mr. Guy Whiten, 93, of 250 Second Street, Hartwell, died peacefully Monday, February 4, 2013 at his home.
Born on December 27, 1919 in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of the late Sam Whiten and Mollie Collins Whiten.He was a retired truck driver for Hartwell Grain & Elevator and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Faye Dyar Whiten of the home; three sons: Wayne Whiten of West Hartford, CT, Darrell Jones of Hartwell, Doug Jones of Royston; three daughters: Margie Shirley of Lavonia, Jackie Dodson of Bowersville, Gwen Fleeman of Hartwell; eight grandchildren: Lindsay Jones, Lauren Fleeman, Brian Peeples, Stephanie Stone, Wayne Whiten, Jr., Chad Jones, Teresa Kesler, and Tony Shirley; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survives.Mr. Whiten was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie McGill; two brothers: Clarence Whiting and Fred Whiting; two sisters: Cleo Alexander and Bernice Scott; and one grandchild, Lucille Ausburn.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating.Burial will be in the Price Chapel Church of God Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.The family is at the home of Jackie and Charlie Dodson, 2454 Bowersville Highway, Bowersville, GA30516.
