Obituary

Mrs. Gwendolyn Ruth Hill Shufelt, 89, of 668 Kay Nursery Road, Royston, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Hart Care Center.

Born on February 26, 1922 in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Homer Hill and Verna Mae Hill. Mrs. Shufelt received her BA from Agnes Scott College and did graduate work at Emory University, she began her teaching career at Grady High School in Atlanta and was a former administrator in the Fulton County School System, where she was the coordinator over all high school math teachers and was a retired instructor at University of Missouri at Kansas City, she was a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, education organization and was of the Baptist Faith. During her forty year career as an educator she inspired many young people.

She is survived by her daughter: Shari Spokes and her husband, John, of Hartwell; two grandchildren: Seth Alhadeff and his wife, Alison, and Andy Alhadeff; and one great grandchild: Solomon Alhadeff. Mrs. Shufelt was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband: Lynn Fredrick Shufelt.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date by the family. Memorials may be made to the Mathematical Education Trust of NCTM, 1906 Association Dr., Reston VA 20191 or to your local Animal Shelter.
