Mr. Clarence Henry "Hank" Kelley, Jr., age 85 of Hartwell, Ga. died February 12, 2010 at his residence.
Born April 6, 1924 in Malvern, AR, he was the son of the late Clarence Henry Kelley and Lillian Catherine Osterman Kelley.He retired from Eastern Airlines after 32 years as a pilot in 1983, was a member of REPA, a Shangri-La Plank Owner and a member of the VB & VBF.Mr. Kelley was a World War II U.S. Navy Pilot, proudly serving on the USS Shangri-La, in the Pacific Theater, where he flew Corsairs.He was a recipient of the Navy Cross, for valor.
After moving to Hartwell from Miami in 1984, he was active in Habitat For Humanity, a volunteer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and was a member of the Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kelley of the home, sons, Craig Kelley of Fort Pierce, FL, Brian Kelley of Rockledge, FL and Glenn Crump of Hartwell GA; daughters, Wendy Zwart and her husband Steve of Leesville SC and Pamela Roach, Nashville TN; a sister, Betty Riba, Chula Vista, CA. Eight grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Elaine Kelley.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. from the Hartwell Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Rev. Billy Pittman and Rev. Donald Hazelgrove will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. The family will be at the home.
