Mr. Harold Preston Harbin husband of Ellen Tinsley Harbin, father of Rick Harbin and Lou Tucker & Doug, grandfather of Amanda, Danielle & Gracie Tucker, age 82, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at AnMed Medical Center.
Born March 5, 1930, in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late John Henry and Marie Hughes Harbin. He retired from TWA as a mechanic; he was former Plant Manager of Woodside Mills in Liberty, SC and worked for 6 years with the US Space program at NASA during the Apollo Program. Mr. Harbin was a US Navy Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church, was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class, Men's Club, the Cecile Daylight Lodge # 305 F&AM of Independence, MO and the Lavonia American Legion.
He is survived by his wife: daughter: son: grandchildren: sister and brother-in-law: Betty & Rev. Charles Boling of Marian IL; sister-in-law: Armeda Tinsley Riggins of Titusville, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew: Zack Bishop.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Massengill officiating. Burial will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens - North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. At other hours the family will be at the home.
Flowers are optional or memorial may be made to Lavonia United Methodist Church Alpha Center Preschool.
