Mr. Harold Douglas "Doug" Mitchell, Sr., age 72, of 2135 Rock Springs Road, Lavonia, died August 9, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.
Born March 10, 1934, in Paulding County, he was a son of Thomas Franklin Mitchell, Sr. and Garon Elliott Mitchell. A veteran of the United States Navy, he was a graduate of Brown High School in Atlanta. Mr. Mitchell retired from Terex-Amida Industries of Rock Hill, SC, as the nation sales manager and was an active member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife: Frankie; son: Harold D. Mitchell of Powder Springs; son and daughter-in-law: Steve L. and Catherine Mitchell of Lavonia; brother and sister-in-law: Louis and Sybil Mitchell of Warner Robbins; sister: Dorothy Mitchell Carwell of Lilburn; grandchildren: Korey S. Mitchell, Martin D. Mitchell, Brandon A. Mitchell, and Sarah C. Mitchell; great granddaughter: Makenzie Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was survived in death by his parents, a brother: Thomas F. Mitchell, Jr., and sister: Caroline Mitchell Lee.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday August 13, 2006 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Keith KcKenzie officiating. Mr. Mitchell's wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church, 2393 Rock Springs Road, Lavonia, GA 30553.
