Obituary

Harold "Hal" W. Pierce, age 79, died on December 6, 2014 at his home in Franklin County, GA, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born in Franklin County, GA September 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Buford N. and Nell E. Holbrook Pierce. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School and received a business degree and a Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Army as a cryptographer stationed in the Marshall Islands on Enewetak Island during the testing of the H-Bomb in the Pacific.
Hal's work in the Atlanta area included working as an insurance adjustor and working in the Georgia State Department as a Rehabilitation Evaluator. He returned to Franklin County, where he taught school at Franklin County High School for several years and later established and operated The Carpet Center where he retired after 25 years.
He is survived by his wife: Bobbie Wilson Pierce; son and daughter-in-law: Jeffrey Lee and Cara Roeder Pierce of Lavonia; son: Clinton Wilson Pierce of the home; grandchildren: Teague Emma Pierce, Knox Roeder Pierce, and Hampton Lee Pierce; sister and brother-in-law: Bonnie Pierce and William P. Bell of Dahlonega, GA; nieces: Kathryn Bell Farmer (Dale Farmer), Janet Bell Dalton (Kent Dalton); nephew: Roger J. Bell (Shelley Collins), all of Marietta, GA; several grandnieces/nephews and cousins.
Hal enjoyed life to its fullest – being with his grandchildren was the highlight of his day and traveling in his motor home throughout Georgia and the U.S. was a passion; also a morning trip to Hardee's to meet with old friends and buddies was a good way to start his day.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger officiating.
