Harold Benson Davis, 72, of Lavonia, went Home to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Born February 8, 1945, in Lavonia, he was the son of the late Hubert A. Davis and Bonnie Ruth Vaughn Davis. Mr. Davis was the grandson of the late Henry Benson Davis and Carmen Greer Davis and the late Jacob Peter Vaughn and Mary Gertrude Watts Vaughn. Harry was a member of the Lavonia High School Class of 1963. He joined the Army National Guard in 1964 and served until 1970. He worked in various auto parts and grocery stores throughout his life and seemed to never meet a stranger. Harry served as a volunteer fireman with the Lavonia Fire Department for 33 years retiring as Assistant Chief. He lived his entire life about a mile from where he was born in Lavonia and loved his town and the people in it. He was baptized in Lavonia First Baptist Church as a child and was privileged to attend there his entire life and serve as Deacon and in various other capacities.He especially loved singing tenor in the choir.He was a member of the Zach Daniel Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his children: Kevin and Paula Davis and Jeremy and Stacey Madden all of Lavonia; seven grandchildren: Wilder Caleb Davis, Ella Grace Madden, Bonnie Greer Madden, McCall Hartley Davis, Davis Childs Madden, Ryker Jacob Davis and Carolina McKelly Madden; a sister and her husband: Linda Davis Doker and Kenneth. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Maggie LeCroy, Harold (Chunk) and Edna LeCroy, Johnny and Helen Varner, Joe Dan and Linda LeCroy, and Dot Davis.Mr. Davis was a member of the Zoo Crew at Morgan Hardware and the Breakfast Club at Burger King; these two groups were especially dear to him after the passing of his wife. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred LeCroy Davis and his brother, Donald Davis. His brother-in-law, James A. (Fox) LeCroy, joined him in Glory just a few hours after his own passing.
Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Pallbearers will be Bryan Doker, Wesley Varner, Chris LeCroy, Todd Gunter, Eddie Floyd and Joey Dove. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Zach Daniel Sunday School Class and the present and past members of the Lavonia Fire Department. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00.Memorials may be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church Building Fund, Youth Hangar 40 Building Fund or Music Department, P.O.
