Mr. William Harry Foster, age 70, of Lavonia, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at AnMed Health.
Born January 9, 1943, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Winfred and Nannie Sue (Gerrard) Foster. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School and the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the Georgia National Guard. He was the former owner of Lavonia Self Storage and the former co-owner of Lavonia Village and Garden Apartments.
Mr. Foster worked a number of years with Farmers Home Administration. He was former president of the Franklin County Farm Bureau, chairman of the Georgia Farm Bureau Young Farmers Committee, and a member of the National Farm Bureau Young Farmers Committee. Mr. Foster was a previous director of the Georgia Farm Bureau and served as president of the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority. He was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Pierce & Elizabeth Foster and Jim & Susie Gerrard. He is survived by his wife, Wendy (Thigpen) Foster, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral home with Rev. Richard Bielski and Rev. Randall Massengill officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery with Rev. Mike Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Mr. Foster's memory to the Lavonia First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Lavonia United Methodist Church Building Fund.
