Mr. Harry Martin Mitchell, age 74, of Lavonia, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at Hart Care Center following an extended illness.
Born July 5, 1944, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late James Burette Mitchell and Mary Vella (Pruitt) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School Class of 1962. He also graduated from Anderson College with a degree in Journalism.He worked as a letter carrier at the Lavonia Post Office for 27 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church and a past member of the Lavonia Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Pruitt Mitchell; and grandson: Andrew Scott Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Polly (Crowe) Mitchell of the home; son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Denise Mitchell of Canon; daughter and son-in-law: Kim and Scot Bruce of Lavonia; and grandchildren: Alex Mitchell, Keri Bruce, and Anthony Mitchell.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Josh Harvill and Rev. Benson Bottoms officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with Rev. Adam Tripp officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
