Mrs. Hazel Schultz Moorhead, 97, of Hartwell, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
Born on May 7, 1926 in Hartwell, GA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Schultz and Dollie Fleming Schultz. Mrs. Moorhead was a graduate of the Hartwell High School Class of 1944, and she was a seamstress and supervisor for the Hartwell Garment Company. She was a long-time member of the Bethany Baptist Church, where she had been a teacher and a choir member. Mrs. Hazel loved her gardens, sewing, cooking, and above all else her family.
Survivors include her son: W. Lynn Moorhead of Hartwell; daughter: Beth Mewborn (Richard) of Hartwell; one sister: Peggy S. Moorhead of North Augusta, SC; three grandchildren: Carla Mewborn of Hartwell, Andrew Mewborn (Ashley) of Salt Lake City, UT, Taylor Mewborn of Dallas, TX; and one great-grandchild: Hazel Kinsley Mewborn. Mrs. Moorhead is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gladston Everett Moorhead; brother: Ernest "Sonny" Schultz; and sister: Elizabeth Schultz Wright Hulme.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Moorhead will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Revs. Luther Thomason, Jerry Durham, and Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church, 2085 Bethany-Bowersville Hwy, Canon, GA 30520 or a charity of one's choice.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
