Mrs. Hazel Robertson Walters, 96, formerly of E. Johnson Street, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at The Gables at Cobb Village, Royston.
Born on August 1, 1920 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the C.P. Robertson and Betty DeFoor Robertson. During WW II, Mrs. Walters was employed by the War Department in Washington DC in the Pentagon.She was among the first to move into the building while it was still under construction.After the war, Mrs. Walters returned home to Hartwell, where she worked for several years for the Page Insurance Agency.After the untimely death of Mr. Page, she became a counselor for Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs, working in the Hartwell office for 37 years until her retirement in 2000.Mrs. Walters was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell and the Ruth SS Class.
Mrs. Walters was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: C.P. Robertson Jr, Lamar Robertson and Joe Robertson and five sisters: Ruth Burden, Pearl Reynolds, Gladys Bond, Irma Robertson and Margaret Thomas.Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Walters, who died in 1983 and her only child, Michael Lynn Walters who preceded her in 2004.
Mrs. Walters is survived by four nieces, her caregivers and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. Steve Albanese, Dr. Hugh Kirby and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, 81 E. Howell Street, Hartwell GA 30643.
