Mrs. Helen Starrett Carey, 82, of South Jackson Street, Hartwell, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016 at her daughter's home.

Born on September 17, 1933 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late James Branson Starrett and Vera Mae Hayes Starrett.Mrs. Carey retired from Hartwell Mills/Springs after 37 years of service as a Spinner and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include her two daughters: Barbara Brown & Arthur of Anderson SC and Rhonda Burton & Terry of Hartwell; three sons: Dennis Carey & Candy of Hartwell, Randy Carey and Ricky Joe Carey & Tami all of Anderson SC; one sister: Thelma Maxwell of Dewy Rose; two brothers: Charles Starrett of Bowman and Don Starrett of Royston; sixteen grandchildren: Jennifer, Leslie, Jesse, Holly, Heather, Tonya, Joseph, Kyle, Dusty, Randi Lane, Phillip & Daniel Carey, Josh Worley, Tyler Ricketts, Justin & Austin Hicks and her caretaker & granddaughter, Ashley Hicks; twenty-nine great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Carey was preceded in death by her husband: Joe Garner Carey; three sons: Steve Carey, Tony Carey and Tommy Carey; a sister: Martha Noggles and a grandson: Blake Carey.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Randall Starrett and Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.The family is at the home of Rhonda & Terry Burton, 2607 Cokesbury Hwy, Hartwell GA 30643.
