Helen Frances Hubbard, age 85, of Grogan Street, Lavonia, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital following an extended illness.
Born February 11, 1933, in Lavonia, she was the daughter of the late Philander Crawford Hubbard and Gwinelle (Andrews) Hubbard. She was a 1950 graduate of Lavonia High School, where she was a stand-out basketball player and member of the Beta Club. After high school she served in the US Air Force and graduated from Mercer College in Macon. She received a Master's Degree from Florida State University and retired as a social worker. After returning to Lavonia, she enjoyed reconnecting with her childhood friends. Ms. Hubbard was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister: Harriett Hubbard Baker. She is survived by her friends & family and her feline companion, Emma.
The memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with the Rev. Dr. Lacey Bowcock officiating. A private graveside will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery.
