Mrs. Helen Smith Moore, 99, of Anderson SC, formerly of Hartwell, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born on February 4, 1914 in Oscoda, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late John P. Smith and Mary Cubilo Smith.She was retired from the Oscoda Area School System where she worked in food service.Mrs. Moore was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, the Ladies Circle at the church and a Lecturer at the church.She was a helper at the Hart County Clothes Closet, former member of the Hospital Auxiliary, the Swingin' Hearts Square Dancers, and volunteered at the local nursing homes.
Survivors include her son, Ralph E. Moore and his wife Bobbie of Pearl City, Hawaii; a daughter, Linda Luton and her husband Lester of Anderson; five grandchildren: Denise (Carl) Honeycutt, Dannette (Larry) Ramirez, Deborah (Patrick) Cox, Cynthia Weeks and Jaime Luton; numerous great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James W. Moore; two brothers: John Smith, Walter Smith; two sisters: Grace Lewis, Marion MacDougall;
Mrs. Moore's wishes were to be cremated.A Memorial Services in her honor will be held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Rafael Castano officiating.Interment will be in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Memory Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1009 Benson Street, Hartwell GA 30643 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson SC 29621.
