Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Duckworth Stanifer, 84, of 170 Emory Drive, Hartwell, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Brown Memorial Convalescence Center.

Born September 25, 1927, in Apollo, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Duckworth and Nellie Douthitt Duckworth.She was a retired secretary for Clauda Plumbing & Heating and was a member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church as well as the Tecumseh Lodge # 51 Order of the Eastern Star.Mrs. Stanifer was formerly a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church where she was a choir member.

Survivors include her husband whom she married on September 11, 1947, Harry M. Stanifer of the home; one son: Chris Stanifer and his wife, Linda, of Lavonia; one daughter: Lana Grimston and her husband, Richard, of Milan, MI; two sisters: Louis Younglove of Tecumseh, MI, and Olive Hart of Adrian, MI; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.Mrs. Stanifer was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.The family is at the home.In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made out to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 E. Howell Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
