Henrietta Diane "Retta" (Chastain) Smith, age 72, of Elberton, formerly of Lavonia, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Spring Valley Nursing Home in Elberton following an extended illness.
Born March 6, 1946, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Johnny Chastain and Edith Virginia (Aldrich) Chastain. She retired from Spring Industries as a filmer. She was a member of the Lavonia Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter: Jimmie Ann Smith; and sister: Patricia Byrum.
Retta is survived by her daughter & son-in-law: Kim & Jeff Ledbetter; sons and daughters-in-law: Scottie & Tina Smith and Chris & Kimberly Smith; sister: Joyce Parker; brother and sister-in-law: Larry and Gail (Poland) Chastain; special cousin: Billy Powell; grandchildren: Kara Ledbetter, Cale Ledbetter, Jessica & Cody Atkinson, Jeremy Smith, Ken Matthews, Jessica Manley, Brittany Manley,. Tiffany Manley, Dylan Manley, Leah Manley, and Levi Manley; and great-grandson: Christopher Atkinson.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Lavonia Church of God with Rev. Adam Tripp and Rev. Josh Cash officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Brent Ayers, Marty Chastain, Jack Parker, Mark Parker, David Pruitt, and Todd Powell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
