Henry Jack Ford, MD, 92, of Athens, GA passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Dr. Ford was born on June 27, 1929 in Lavonia, GA. He was the son of the late Henry Martin Ford and Josephine Grubbs Ford.
He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950 and served in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps during the Korean War from 1950-1954 at the station hospital at Burtonwood AFB, England. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 1959. He met his wife Jenny while she was working as a registered a nurse at Athens General Hospital and they were married in 1963. They moved to Augusta and he completed his Residency in Psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia in 1969. They returned to Athens where he was in private practice for over 25 years until they moved to Milledgeville, GA in 1985 where he served as the Medical Director of the Developmental Disabilities Division at Central State Hospital. After his retirement in 1995 they returned to Athens.
Dr. Ford was preceded in death by his wife Jenny and is survived by his daughters Katherine Crossan (Tom), Nancy Piotrowski (Gary), and four grandchildren, Kayleigh Crossan, Duncan Crossan (Jessica), Chase Piotrowski, and Elise Piotrowski.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Chris Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
