Mr. Joe Herbert “Herb” Hornick, 86, of Hartwell, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Rainey Hospice House, Anderson SC.
Born on April 12, 1939 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late Joe B. Hornick and Flossie Stamps Hornick. Mr. Hornick retired after 33 years of service from the Hartwell Post Office as a Postal Clerk. He was also a member of the Hartwell Lions Club and Gideons International, Hart County Camp for 26 years, member of the Hart Co. Fire Department for 30 years and the City of Hartwell Fire Department, where was the Safety and Accountability officer for 8 years.
Mr. Hornick was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a former Chairman of the Board of Deacons, AWANA Commander, went on several mission trips to build churches and was the church’s first sound technician.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Betty Saxon Hornick; a son: David Hornick (Traci) of Hartwell; a daughter: Angela Hornick Kay of Hartwell; three grandchildren: Briana Kay, Jon Hornick (Kelli) & Hayley Hornick and two great-grandchildren: Lainey Kate Hornick & Rhodes Hornick also survive.
Mr. Hornick was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Ronald Hornick and Jimmy Hornick.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.
Funeral services for Mr. Herb Hornick will be Monday, January 19, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Thomason officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
The following men have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Cannan Richardson, Ron Richardson, Paul Johnson, Elijah Thomason, Jon Hornick, Carey Saxon, Thomas Saxon, Tim Mize, Chad Lathan and Jimmy LeCroy. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s SS Class, Gideons and the Hartwell Lions Club.
Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, PO Box 396, Hartwell GA 30643, Gideons International, Hart Co. Camp, PO Box 59, Hartwell GA 30643 or Hart County Special Olympics, 59 Fifth Street, Hartwell GA 30643.
