Mr. Homer Adams Thornton, 90, of 4994 Bowersville Highway, Bowersville, peacefully passed away, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 13, 1923 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late Heidt Thornton and Alice Elizabeth Adams Thornton.He was retired from the Hartwell Coca Cola Company where he worked as a service manager for 44 years.Homer was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School class, the Sunshine Club, the Bowersville Masonic Lodge, and a former deacon, choir director, choir member and served on various committees.Mr. Thornton was a US Army Veteran having served in WW II in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Alewine Thornton; two sons: Lanny Thornton and his wife Margie of Bowersville, Barry Thornton and his wife Carole of Canon; a daughter, Wanda Davis and her husband Jeff of Lavonia; five grandchildren: MeriBeth D. McNeill, JoAnna Davis, Josh Thornton, Rusty Thornton, Adam Thornton; and two great-grandchildren: Luke Thornton and Lily Claire Thornton.Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Homer Ronald Thornton; five brothers: Mitch Thornton, Jim Thornton, Carter Thornton, Sam Thornton, and Roy Thornton.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Michael McMurray and Rev. Benson Bottoms officiating.The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Connie Mack Bowers officiating.
The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The family is at the home.
