Obituary

Hoyt Lee Kay passed away June 10, 2009, in Toccoa, Georgia.A life-long resident of northeast Georgia, he was born May 21, 1913, in Hart County, Georgia, the oldest child of the late Samuel Perry and Nettie Lee Kay.
Hoyt spent most of his life in the Lavonia home he built with his father and brothers.He was married for 69 years to Marie Fleming Kay. He was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church and the Earl Dowis Sunday School Class.Hoyt enjoyed gardening, fishing, hosting family fish fries, playing cards, annual trips to the beach, and sharing time with family and friends.
Hoyt leaves a legacy as a carpenter and builder.He worked at LeTourneau/Westinghouse/Wabco for 31 years manufacturing parts for heavy equipment.After retirement, he helped to build many homes in the Lavonia and Lake Hartwell area.
Hoyt was an inspiration to his extended family. He was a wonderful father to his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda & Darwin McEntyre of Buford, and Regina & John Bond of Toccoa, and son and daughter-in-law Keith and Vicki (Connell) Kay of Athens.He will be remembered as a loving grandfather by Kim (McEntyre) & Chuck Rogers of Lawrenceville, Todd & Tracie (Foster) McEntyre of Toccoa, Mandy (Bond) & Butch Ayers of Toccoa, and Gina (Bond) & Jeff Carey of Toccoa.Hoyt took immense pride in his great-grandchildren Sam, Matt, & Kristen Rogers; Tiffany, Taylee, Ty, & Kevin McEntyre; Zach & Ashton Ayers; and Jace and John Parker Carey.He will be missed by two sisters, Ruth White Minor of Lavonia and Mary Wells of Anderson SC, a sister-in-law Vera Pitts Kay of Hartwell, and many nieces and nephews. Hoyt was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Fleming Kay, a sister, Louise Carroll, and five brothers:Thomas, Dupree, Bernice "Fanny", Charles, & James Perry Kay.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Mr. David Kay and Revs. Richard Bielski and Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Lavonia First Baptist Church P.O. Box 47 Lavonia, GA 30553.
