Mr. Hugh Steed Lankford, fondly known as Hugh Baby, age 80, of Lavonia, died Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Stephens County Hospital.
Born November 18, 1929 in Hart County, he was the son of the late Loyd and Louise Vaughn Lankford. He graduated from Lavonia High School in 1948 and was a retired poultry farmer and parts manager of Farmers Equipment Company. Mr. Lankford was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia.
Mr. Lankford was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter: Brenda Floyd.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years: Mildred Mauldin Lankford; daughter: Betty Royal of Lavonia; daughters & sons-in-law:Shirley Moorhead & her husband Mike of Bowersville & Melanie Roberts & her husband Rickey of Lavonia; Son-in-Law: Terry Floyd of Lavonia; 6 grandchildren: Terrell Floyd, Christopher Royal, Michelle Emmons, Brandon Moorhead, Molly Harris, & Josh Roberts; and 12great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia with Rev. Kenneth Jones and Mr. Terrell Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Terry Floyd, Brandon Moorhead, Jeffrey Emmons, Josh Harris, Eddie Floyd, & Jamie Smith. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Kitchen Fund.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Sunday.At other hours the family will be at the home of Terrell and Melanie Floyd 202 Floyd Road in Lavonia.
