Ida Virginia Porter Burgess, age 95, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Lavonia, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 in Jacksonville.

Born November 5, 1926 in Royston, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Sharp and Ethel Landrum Porter. Prior to retirement, she worked as a legal secretary for the Andy Hill Law Firm. IN retirement, she worked as a foster grandparent. She loved reading and watching sports. She especially loved college basketball, The Georgia Bulldogs, and the Atlanta Braves.Mrs. Burgess was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Hugh Freeman Burgess; son: Thomas Hugh Burgess; and siblings: Wilson "Billy Porter, and Read Porter. She is survived by her daughter: Jennifer Burgess; granddaughter: Melissa Burgess Werley (Matthew); great-grandchildren: Elijah and Ava Werley; and sister: Norma Jane Bame.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Mark Cooling officiating.
