Irene Lucille (Day) Winne Ackerman passed away in Jasper, GA on November 20, 2016 after an extended illness. Irene was born to the late Leslie and Agnes (Daniels) Day on May 20, 1923. She graduated from South New Berlin High School in 1941 and from Hartwick College School of Nursing in 1948 as a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She married Floyd W. Winne, Jr in Cooperstown, NY in 1949, where she worked as a registered nurse, and raised four children in their home in Fly Creek, NY. She and her husband Floyd retired to Hartwell GA in 1976. He died in 1989. She enjoyed camping, hosting family gatherings, and was a talented artist and prolific oil painter. She was a member of the Tugaloo Art Guild and the Art Guild of Hartwell..

Irene married Elmer Ackerman in Hartwell, GA in 1992.She is survived by her children – David (Martha) Winne, Liverpool, NY; Nancy Winne (Gary Phillips), Raleigh, NC; Mark (Hope) Winne, Blue Ridge, GA; daughter-in-law Suzy (David)Winne-White, Carnesville, GA; step-children Nancy (Michael) Hurley, Hartwell, GA; John (Diane)Ackerman, Florence, SC; Robert (Sue) Ackerman, Hartwell, GA; and Gerald (Pamela) Ackerman, Bowman, GA, She is also survived by her sister: Dorothy (Peter) Martin, Fly Creek, NY, and brother: Leslie Day, Jr of Milford NY and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by husbands Floyd Winne and Elmer Ackerman, son: Paul Winne, step-son: Donald Ackerman, sisters: Lois Bunn and Jeannette Holden, and brothers: Roger Day, Douglas Day, Gerald Day, and Leon Day.

The family will receive friends at the Faith Lutheran Church, 691 Benson St, Hartwell, GA from 1:30 – 2:30 PM Sunday, December 4, 2016. Memorial services will be 2:30 PM in the church sanctuary with burial of her ashes to follow at Nancy Hart Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Irene's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center, Suite 550, Atlanta GA 30346.
